The United States has a history of having complex relationships in geopolitics, particularly with India. It has been criticized for holding double standards, and it seems this pattern is continuing.

As President Joe Biden’s term nears its end, he has once again made a move towards Pakistan. Biden has sent a letter to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing the United States’ ongoing support for Pakistan.

This gesture underscores the significance of their relationship for both bilateral and regional peace and security. Remarkably, this is Biden’s first official communication with any Pakistani Prime Minister during his presidency.

This move by the Biden administration has raised eyebrows, especially considering its involvement in India’s internal affairs while seemingly ignoring election fraud in Pakistan.

This is despite calls from numerous Democratic lawmakers urging the administration not to recognize the disputed election results in Pakistan. The letter from Biden highlighted the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan, emphasizing its importance for global and regional challenges.

Biden expressed commitment to advancing shared goals of health, security, economic growth, and educational opportunities. He also mentioned working together to promote and protect human rights.

However, Biden’s letter did not include congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif on becoming Prime Minister, which suggests a nuanced approach by the U.S., possibly indicative of a ‘divide and rule’ policy. In addition to this diplomatic communication, the Biden administration had previously approved a $700 million deal to upgrade Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets.

The justification provided was that it would aid Pakistan in combating terrorism. This decision further illustrates the complex and sometimes contradictory nature of U.S. foreign policy actions in the region.
