பிரித்தானியா இலங்கையின் தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு நல்லது செய்வதாக கூறி, முன்னாள் இராணுவத்தளபதிகள் இருவர், முன்னாள் கடற்படை தளபதி மற்றும் முன்னாள் பிரதியமைச்சர் கருணா ஆகியோருக்கு எதிராக தடையை அறிவித்துள்ளது.
இந்த தடையும் பல ஆண்டுகளாக விடுக்கப்பட்ட கோரிக்கையின் பின்னரே, மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது.

எனினும் இந்த பிரச்சினை, பிரித்தானிய இலங்கைக்கு சுதந்திரம் வழங்கியபோது விட்டு சென்ற நிர்வாக குறைபாடே என்பதை அந்த நாடு பகிரங்கமாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவேண்டும்.
இதன் காரணமாக இனப்பிரச்சினையால் வடக்குகிழக்கு மக்கள் இன்னல்களுக்கு உள்ளாகியுள்ள நிலையில், அவர்களால் இலங்கைக்கு அழைத்து வரப்பட்ட இந்திய வம்சாவளி மக்கள் இன்னும் உரிமையற்றவர்களாக உள்ளனர்
